New Forest Marque – the sign of true local produce – celebrates 20th anniversary

The New Forest Marque local produce scheme celebrated its 20th anniversary at the New Forest Show today (Tuesday, 28 July) announcing a record number of members.
Now with 178 producers and sellers of everything from award-winning cheese and chutneys to strawberries and soap the scheme is going from strength to strength.
The distinctive Marque logo is awarded to produce which has been grown, reared, caught, brewed, produced or processed within the New Forest. Hotels, farm shops, cafes and B&Bs can also become members when they sell or serve Marque produce.
This year it also launched a new ‘Inspired’ Marque to highlight talented artists and crafts people who take their inspiration from the magnificent New Forest.
New Forest Marque Chair Dan Parsons said: ‘Our passionate producers are linked to the landscape and traditions which make the New Forest so special. By buying local you’re not only supporting the economy of New Forest communities but also the environment by shopping sustainably. The Marque is a guarantee that at least 25% of a product’s ingredients come from the Forest so there are very few food miles involved.’
The New Forest Marque is supported by the New Forest National Park Authority as local produce is a key part of the NPA’s goal of supporting the Forest economy and helping to tackle climate change.
Meet the members at the New Forest Show, New Park, Brockenhurst until Thursday or at other local events in the coming weeks including the Ellingham Show and Romsey Show.
