Kim Thompson artist

We are delighted to have Kim join our New Forest Marque Inspired community.

Kim is a painter and illustrator whose work reflects the beautiful flora and fauna of the New Forest – specialising in wildlife, animal, and equestrian subjects. Alongside original artworks, Kim produces prints, cards and other merchandise, runs workshops, and has exhibited around the Forest including at the New Forest Show. She is represented by the Palais des Vaches Gallery in Exbury.

Inspired by the New Forest’s tranquility through the seasons, Kim loves nothing more than to get out for a long walk. She is happiest with her back pack, sketch pad and a map ready to explore and let the creativity flow. As an avid horse lover, going for a hack in the Forest is another one of her favourite pastimes.

We asked Kim why she joined New Forest Marque Inspired?

‘For a long time I have admired the quality represented by New Forest Marque products and their unique association with the New Forest, its history and heritage and have wished that there should be something similar for creative people here too.  It was exciting to see the creation of New Forest Marque Inspired and the potential it represents to give a platform and opportunities to members and also a chance to meet up. Very often we work in isolation but our energy and inspiration is always boosted by contact with others who share a creative life.’

The New Forest has always been a special, inspiring place to me as a wildlife artist and I care deeply about its protection. Joining New Forest Marque Inspired makes me feel part of a group of people who are declaring the importance of this Forest to our lives and our work. ‘

When asked about the importance of shopping local Kim reflects on how vital small businesses are to the life and character of our villages and towns. Without people choosing to buy locally, these places risk losing their identity to large companies or developments. In a destination like the New Forest, where visitors are drawn to locally made and inspired products, Kim believes it is essential that small businesses and individual makers are supported year round. We couldn’t agree more.
