In 1983 Roger moved to West Wellow from Southampton where he had worked for BT. He planted his vineyard there in 1987. When Roger left BT in 1996 he went into the production of English wine full time and became Chairman of the UK Vineyards Association. He still actively makes, bottles and sells English wine produced from grapes grown in the vineyard in West Wellow and Lord Montagu’s vineyard in Beaulieu. Roger is currently the Secretary of the Wessex Vineyards Association. He feels that the vineyards of the New Forest are part of a rapidly expanding, successful new agricultural based industry in the UK and need to be part of a thriving local economy.
