The Bell Inn casts its net wide and with the help of their customers do their bit to help the escalating issues facing the UK’s fishing industry and coastal heritage

The Bell Inn is delighted to announce that they are the first restaurant in the New Forest to have adopted the ‘Donation Scheme with the National Lobster Hatchery. Sustainable food has always played a huge part of the food story at The Bell Inn and shocking statistics such as 90% of the world’s fish stocks being over-exploited, depleted or in recovery, and demand for seafood fast outstripping supply, really struck a chord with them.
Which is why when head Chef Mark Young was holidaying in Cornwall and heard of the National Lobster Hatchery, he knew the Inn could do its bit to help out. The National Lobster Hatchery is a pioneering marine conservation, research and education charity which has adopted an approach to conserving vulnerable lobster populations which supports fisheries, sustainability and the wider marine environment…. in a fish net or put simply they raise baby lobsters through their early vulnerable life stages then release them back into the wild when their natural survival rates are greatly improved, giving mother nature a helping hand to deal with modern day pressures.
The donation scheme enables seafood suppliers, restaurateurs and customers to play an important part in helping the charity continue this vital conservation work. By simply adding an opt out donation of £1 to the ‘Catch of The Day’ which The Bell Inn will match, customers will be enabling the release of baby lobsters back into the sea increasing the supply into our oceans for generations to come.
Check out our daily changing Catch of The Day board to enjoy daily specials such as …Lemon and Basil Hake served with asparagus, grilled tomatoes and wild garlic cream sauce
