Concordia's World moth

We are delighted to welcome Mary-Ann, textile and mixed media artist and creator of Concordia’s World, to the New Forest Marque Inspired community.

Working from her studio on the edge of the New Forest National Park, Mary-Ann creates enchanting sculptural creatures brought to life through intricate mechanical movement. Her creations take many forms — from automata and mobiles to delicate balance sculptures. Together they are Concordia’s World.

Mary-Ann’s work is deeply inspired by the natural beauty of the New Forest, especially its butterflies, birds and woodland wildlife. She also draws from the rich world of folklore and fantasy, where dragons, mythical beings and winged creatures take flight in the imagination.

After a 30-year career in civil engineering and transport planning, a serious illness prompted Mary-Ann to return to her creative roots. In doing so, she rediscovered childhood passions and founded Concordia’s World — an imaginative realm where her textile creatures slowly come to life. Each piece is carefully handcrafted from preowned and preloved materials, such as clay, wire, fabric, and found objects, giving them new purpose.

Mary-Ann describes the creative process as like greeting an old friend — slowly uncovering the personality of each whimsical character as it emerges. Her work is fun, quirky, detailed and original.
